DOTTYBACKS - PSEUDOCHROMIDAE

Dottyback-info

Dottybacks are small colorful fish that live hidden between corals and rocks. They are very territorial and can be aggressive towards family members entering their territory. Sometimes it is the male that keeps the eggs in their mouths until they hatch. Others work differently with the male digging a hole for the female to drop her eggs inside. The male will then keep busy oxygenating the eggs by waving his fins over them. Every once in while the male will then take the eggs in his mouth to turn them around. After a few days the young will hatch and try to find their way along the reef.
